In the realm of Adlerian play therapy, therapists delve into the foundational principles of Alfred Adler’s Individual Psychology to understand and navigate a child’s world. Through the use of toys, art, play material, and metacommunication, therapists establish connections and communicate with children in a meaningful way.

The process involves co-creating a relationship with the child through play, fostering an environment where exploration of the child’s thoughts, emotions, and behaviors can occur. This exploration aids in gaining insight into patterns of behavior, feelings, and thoughts, and encourages the child to consider making changes to any patterns that may be detrimental.

Following this training, participants will acquire a comprehensive understanding of Adlerian theory, enabling them to:

  1. List and elucidate the four basic concepts of Adlerian theory.
  2. Describe each of the four phases of Adlerian Play Therapy.
  3. Define metacommunication within the context of Adlerian Play Therapy.
  4. Demonstrate the application of encouragement techniques in Adlerian Play Therapy.
  5. Identify and describe the Crucial C’s, fundamental principles within Adlerian Play Therapy.
  6. Familiarize themselves with the various Personality Profiles.
  7. Define the concept of lifestyle and its relevance within Adlerian Play Therapy.

This training equips participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively apply Adlerian principles in their practice, fostering therapeutic relationships that facilitate growth, insight, and positive change in children.
