Textile artist and IMM Librarian, Carrie Sieh, will kick off the workshop with an engaging lecture on the global history of decorative embroidery. Following this, she will guide participants through the process of transferring designs, preparing fabric, and mastering basic embroidery stitches.

  • Master Basic Stitches: Learn four foundational embroidery stitches: backstitch, chain stitch, satin stitch, and knot stitch.
  • Historical Understanding: Develop an appreciation for the historical context and significance of decorative embroidery.
  • Create Your Own Piece: Produce a handmade embroidery piece. Choose to create an applique or embroider directly on your own garment.
