Apricity: A Play About Healing and the Power of Memory
The lights dim, casting an intimate glow across the stage. Penny, poised and nervous, waits for the curtain to rise. A familiar figure emerges from the shadows – Jude, her childhood best friend.
“How do you remember me?” Penny asks, her voice laced with a vulnerability that belies her outward strength.
This poignant question sets the stage for Apricity, a powerful new memory play by London-based artists Liv and Josie. Debuting in Los Angeles, Apricity explores the raw, unhealed wounds we carry from the past and the transformative power of revisiting them.
Just moments before facing an audience hungry for connection, Penny grapples with Jude. Their shared history, a tapestry woven with threads of joy, sorrow, and everything in between, threatens to unravel.
Apricity delves into sensitive topics, including addiction, suicide, self-harm, depression, sexual assault, and substance abuse. Through Penny and Jude’s journey, the play invites audiences to confront these often-silenced realities with empathy and understanding.
The performance begins promptly at 7 pm, but the emotional exploration starts well before the curtain rises. Attendees are asked to arrive between 6 pm and 6:45 pm to fully immerse themselves in the world of Apricity.
This is not a play for the faint of heart. Content warnings are clearly displayed to ensure a safe and inclusive space for discussion. Strict enforcement of the 21+ age limit guarantees a mature and respectful audience.
Following the performance, a post-show mingling event creates a unique opportunity for audience members to connect with the playwrights, Liv and Josie, and potentially share their own stories. This facilitated dialogue, taking place between 8:30 pm and 9:15 pm, fosters a sense of community and allows the themes of Apricity to resonate beyond the stage.
Liv and Josie, a dynamic duo of English and Danish artists residing in London, are thrilled to bring Apricity to Los Angeles. Their passion for exploring the complexities of human experience through art promises a powerful and unforgettable theatrical experience.
Apricity isn’t just a play; it’s a conversation starter. It’s a call to acknowledge the darkness we carry within ourselves and to find the light that shines through. This compelling production promises to stay with audiences long after the final curtain falls.
Don’t miss your chance to be part of this transformative experience.
