Celebrate Earth Day by Giving Back at Larry & Penny Thompson Park!
Calling all nature enthusiasts and green thumbs! Join Miami-Dade County Parks on Saturday, April 20th, for a heartwarming Earth Day celebration at Larry & Penny Thompson Park. This event offers a fantastic opportunity to roll up your sleeves, lend a helping hand, and make a real difference in your community.
Volunteer for a Healthier Ecosystem:
Team up with dedicated park staff and dedicate a portion of your day to restoring the park’s precious Pine Rockland habitat. You’ll be actively involved in tasks that directly benefit the environment, such as:
- Planting Native Treasures: Contribute to a thriving ecosystem by planting native plant species in designated Pine Rockland restoration areas. These native plants will attract vital pollinators, enhance the environment, and support local wildlife.
- Eradicating Invasive Species: Unwanted invasive plants can disrupt the natural balance. By removing them from park trails, you’ll help ensure a healthy and diverse ecosystem for native plants and animals to flourish.
- Cleaning Up for a Brighter Future: Keeping the park clean and free of litter is essential. Lend a hand by collecting debris and litter along the trails and shorelines, ensuring Larry & Penny Thompson Park remains a beautiful haven for all.
More Than Just Volunteering:
While volunteer activities are at the heart of this Earth Day celebration, there’s much more to explore! Enjoy a variety of engaging family-friendly activities throughout the park.
- Free Trees for All: Looking to expand your urban oasis? Don’t miss the chance to participate in the tree giveaway organized by Million Trees Miami. Take home a beautiful native tree and contribute to a greener neighborhood.
- EcoVillage Learning: Immerse yourself in a vibrant EcoVillage featuring educational booths. Here you can learn more about environmental issues, discover eco-friendly practices, and engage with knowledgeable experts.
Be Prepared for a Rewarding Day:
To ensure a comfortable and productive day, make sure to pack a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the event. Closed-toe shoes and clothing suitable for outdoor work are essential. Miami-Dade Parks will provide all the necessary tools you’ll need to complete your volunteer tasks.
Join the Earth Day celebration at Larry & Penny Thompson Park! It’s a fantastic opportunity to give back to nature, connect with your community, and celebrate the beauty of our planet. Let’s work together to create a healthier and more sustainable future for generations to come!
