DESCRIPTION:Join the Santa Monica Symphony for a captivating evening of cla
 ssical music\, led by guest conductor Pola Benke and featuring the talente
 d Cathy Biagini on cello. This concert promises a dynamic and varied progr
 am that blends both timeless compositions and vibrant\, emotional performa
 nces.\nThe evening begins with Felix Mendelssohn's The Hebrides Overture\,
  Op. 26\, a stirring work inspired by the landscapes of Scotland. Followin
 g this\, Cathy Biagini will take the stage to perform Dmitry Kabalevsky's 
 Cello Concerto No. 1\, Op. 49\, a powerful and expressive piece in three m
 ovements:\n\n\n 	Allegro\n 	Largo\n 	Allegro molto\n\nAfter intermission\,
  the symphony will transport the audience with Josef Strauss’ Sphärenkl
 änge Waltz\, Op. 235\, arranged by Michael Rott\, followed by Joseph Hayd
 n’s Symphony No. 94\, Surprise\, a lively and well-loved symphonic work.
  The four movements of Haydn’s piece include:\n\n\n 	Adagio cantabile 
 – Vivace assai\n 	Andante\n 	Menuetto: Allegro molto\n 	Finale: Allegro 
 molto\n\nPola Benke\, the guest conductor for the evening\, will bring her
  precise and emotionally compelling leadership to the performance. Benke i
 s an accomplished conductor and cellist\, known for her role as Assistant 
 Conductor for both the Long Beach Symphony and Riverside Philharmonic. Ori
 ginally from Poland\, her career has been marked by prestigious opportunit
 ies\, including training with the renowned Maestro Neeme Järvi at the Jä
 rvi Academy in Estonia. Her passion for contemporary music and her dynamic
  approach to conducting make her a standout artist. Benke is a strong advo
 cate for living composers and often collaborates to promote their work.\nE
